Role Overview
Hospice volunteers provide companionship, support, and comfort to patients and families receiving end-of-life care, while also assisting the hospice team with administrative and program support as needed. Volunteers embody the mission of Heart N Soul Hospice through compassionate service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide companionship to patients through conversation, presence, reading, music, or life-review activities.
- Offer emotional support to patients and families, respecting diverse cultural, spiritual, and personal values.
- Assist with respite care, allowing caregivers short breaks.
- Support bereavement programs (calls, mailings, or group preparation).
- Participate in the We Honor Veterans Program, including military history checklists, Valor Ceremonies, and Vet-to-Vet visits (if applicable).
- Provide clerical and office support such as filing, phone calls, mailings, or assembling orientation packets.
- Support special projects, events, and community outreach for hospice awareness.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and family information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Attend required orientation and ongoing training sessions.
- Complete and submit volunteer documentation and timesheets as directed.
- Communicate regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding schedules, concerns, or patient/family updates.
Qualifications
- Compassionate, reliable, and respectful of diverse backgrounds.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and emotional resilience.
- Completion of volunteer orientation/training program.
- Background check and TB screening (required by policy) or proof of Covid Vaccination
- Must be at least 18 years old (some roles may be open to younger volunteers with parental consent).
- Submit copy of DL and Car Insurance after completing application

Time Commitment
