Volunteer Grant Writer

Love Without Violence, Inc. (LWOV) is a Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence, promoting healthy relationships, and connecting individuals and communities with resources and support.

Our work focuses on creating meaningful conversations around love, relationships, safety, and violence prevention, with a particular commitment to serving Black and Brown communities.

As we continue to grow our programs, partnerships, and community impact, we are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Volunteer Grant Writer to help us identify funding opportunities and develop compelling grant proposals that support our mission.

About the Opportunity

The Volunteer Grant Writer will play an important role in helping LWOV build its fundraising capacity and secure funding from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other grant-making organizations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant writing, community impact, or social justice who wants meaningful hands-on experience with a growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and identify local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grant opportunities aligned with LWOV's mission and programs.
• Maintain a calendar of upcoming grant opportunities, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
• Review grant guidelines and determine organizational eligibility.
• Develop compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, narratives, and supporting materials.
• Work collaboratively with LWOV leadership to gather program information, organizational data, budgets, and impact metrics needed for applications.
• Help develop and maintain a library of reusable grant language, organizational information, statistics, and program descriptions.
• Assist with grant budgets and supporting documentation as needed.
• Track submitted applications and funding outcomes.
• Assist with grant reporting and stewardship requirements for awarded grants.
• Stay informed about funding trends and opportunities related to domestic violence prevention, healthy relationships, survivor support, community engagement, workforce development, and violence prevention.
• Make recommendations to leadership regarding potential funding opportunities and fundraising strategies.

Qualifications

• Has strong written communication and research skills.
• Is highly organized and able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Can write clearly, persuasively, and professionally.
• Has strong attention to detail.
• Is comfortable conducting independent research.
• Can work independently while communicating effectively with a small nonprofit team.
• Demonstrates a commitment to domestic violence prevention, healthy relationships, survivor advocacy, or related social-impact work.

Preferred, but not required:

• Previous grant writing experience.
• Experience working with nonprofit organizations.
• Experience researching foundation or corporate funding opportunities.
• Familiarity with grant databases and platforms such as Candid/Foundation Directory Online, Grants.gov, Instrumentl, or similar resources.
• Experience developing nonprofit budgets or grant reports.

Time Commitment

Approximately 5–10 hours per week, with flexibility based on the volunteer's availability and upcoming grant deadlines.

This is a remote-friendly volunteer position, with occasional virtual meetings and opportunities to participate in LWOV events and organizational activities.
