AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Expands Services at Heritage Library for 2026 Tax Returns

Tax-Aide will once again offer free tax return preparation services at the New Kent branch library. Last year, Tax-Aide expanded into New Kent and Charles City Counties with a program that assisted community members in preparing and e-filing their own federal and state tax returns. Due to the program’s success, Tax-Aide is now offering its full-service tax preparation option for the 2026 tax year. This option involves IRS-certified counselors interviewing clients, assessing their tax situations, and preparing their tax returns for e-filing.

This full-service option has been available since 1987 in the Williamsburg-James City area where Tax-Aide prepares nearly 3,000 returns each year. Tax-Aide is now seeking volunteers to help with this expanded service. This includes Tax Counselors who receive 40 hours of training, prepare practice returns and take associated tests on tax law and return preparation. In addition, Client Facilitator positions are also available. Facilitators receive 8-10 hours of training and take two 10-question tests on procedures and standards.
