Alzheimer’s Association Advocacy Volunteer (State & Federal)

Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are among the most urgent public health challenges facing Marylanders. That’s why the Alzheimer’s Association is unrelenting in its advocacy for public policies that accelerate research, strengthen care and support, and improve the lives of everyone affected. Now is the time to raise your voice.

    What You'll Do:

As an Advocacy Volunteer, you’ll help advance policies that support people living with dementia, caregivers, and the healthcare workforce. Opportunities are flexible and tailored to your interests, skills, and availability. Activities may include:

    • Sharing your personal story as a person living with dementia, caregiver, or advocate with elected officials
    • Meeting (virtually or in‑person) with state or federal policymakers
    • Writing letters or emails to legislators on key advocacy priorities
    • Submitting letters to the editor or opinion pieces to local media
    • Using social media to raise awareness and engage policymakers
    • Participating in advocacy days, briefings, or trainings hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association

You choose how and when you participate — whether it’s a few actions per year or more ongoing engagement.

    Who This Opportunity Is For:

No prior advocacy or policy experience is required. This role is a great fit for:

    • Individuals personally affected by Alzheimer’s or other dementias
    • Caregivers, healthcare professionals, students, retirees, or community advocates
    • People who want to use their voice to create systems‑level change
    • Anyone passionate about public health, aging, or brain health

We provide training, resources, and support every step of the way.

    Time Commitment & Support:

    • Flexible — you decide your level of involvement
    • Opportunities range from quick online actions to deeper advocacy engagement
    • Advocacy training, talking points, and staff support are provided
