Support Volunteer Roles
Across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, support volunteers work directly with our local MND community, bringing people together, fostering a sense of belonging and connection, and offering signposting and emotional support to those living with and affected by Motor Neurone Disease ('MND').
These roles are flexible and shaped around you and your local community's needs. Whether you're a natural listener, someone who loves organising get-togethers, or simply want to be a friendly, familiar face — there's a role for you. You could be an Association Visitor, Support Event Co-ordinator, Helper, or something else entirely tailored to a local vacancy.
Here are just a few ways you could get involved:
- Association Visitor – Provide one-to-one support to someone living with or affected by MND, helping them access information and services, and make informed choices.
- Support Event Co-ordinator – Help plan and run local support events and group settings that bring people together and reduce isolation.
- Helper – Lend a hand at support groups or events, welcoming people and helping things run smoothly.
- Online & telephone support – Offer support remotely, giving people flexible ways to stay connected and access help when they need it.
What can I do?
We've got a wide range of opportunities available, including supporting people directly so they can make informed choices and access the services they need, when they need them. We also offer opportunities for online and telephone support, as well as helping in a group setting, which helps reduce isolation.
Why become a support volunteer?
As a support volunteer, you get to see first-hand the impact you have on a family's life. Given the nature of the disease and its fast progression, it's easy to see why volunteers are so vital in supporting people affected by this devastating disease. With your help, we can recognise and represent the diverse needs of people affected by MND.
