Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), career pathways, and community partnerships. Programs are the core of MAP’s mission—where relationships, consistency, and impact are built every day.
About PromiseLearning | Program Delivery & Development
PromiseLearning is MAP’s education and program division responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling high-quality programs across in-person and future platforms. The division ensures that all programming is structured, impactful, and aligned with student needs.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Director of Programs to lead the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of all MAP programs.
This role is responsible for ensuring that programs are well-designed, consistently delivered, and effectively scaled—while maintaining high standards for student experience and outcomes.
This is a senior leadership role that bridges vision and execution across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Program Strategy & Leadership
- Define and lead MAP’s overall program strategy and vision
- Ensure alignment across mentorship, SEL, academic support, and creative programming
- Set priorities for program development and expansion
Program Execution & Oversight
- Oversee implementation of all in-person and program initiatives
- Ensure consistency, structure, and quality across all sites and programs
- Supervise Program Managers and Coordinators
Program Quality & Standards
- Establish and maintain standards for program delivery and student experience
- Monitor program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement
- Ensure alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered approach
Team Leadership & Management
- Manage and support program leadership roles
- Build systems for accountability, performance, and communication
- Ensure teams are aligned, supported, and operating effectively
Cross-Division Coordination
- Collaborate with PromiseMeasure on data, evaluation, and impact tracking
- Work with PromisePeople on staffing, training, and volunteer alignment
- Align with PromisePublic and PromiseRise on program integration and expansion
Partnership & Site Alignment
- Oversee relationships with school and community partners
- Ensure program expectations and standards are met across sites
- Support expansion into new schools and locations
Systems, Reporting & Growth
- Develop systems for tracking program performance and outcomes
- Prepare updates and reports for leadership
- Support scaling of programs with strong operational foundations
Communication & Responsiveness
- Maintain clear, timely communication across leadership and program teams
- Ensure responsiveness via Google Workspace and organizational systems
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in program leadership, education, or youth development
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Ability to design and oversee complex program systems
- Strong organizational, operational, and strategic thinking skills
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values
Preferred
- Experience managing multi-site programs
- Experience in nonprofit or school-based environments
- Familiarity with SEL, mentorship, or youth programming
- Experience scaling programs or building operational systems
Commitment
- Volunteer senior leadership role
- Approximately 5–10 hours per week
- Minimum 6-month commitment required
- Hybrid / remote with NYC-based coordination as needed
