    About the Project

Georgetown Village is interviewing older adults in our community to celebrate their life experiences and share the rich variety of perspectives that make up our neighborhood. These conversations capture wisdom and stories that deserve to be preserved and shared. We're looking for a volunteer editor to help bring these interviews to a wider audience online.

    What You'd Be Doing

    • Edit full-length interviews (approximately 60 minutes each) down into shorter, engaging segments suitable for online viewing
    • Trim pauses, false starts, and off-topic tangents while preserving the authentic voice and spirit of each interviewee
    • Organize footage into a clear, watchable narrative arc
    • Add basic titles and captions as needed (training/guidance provided if you're new to this)
    • Export files in formats suitable for our website and social channels

    What We're Looking For

    • Experience with video or audio editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, iMovie, Audacity, or similar — no specific program required)
    • A thoughtful, respectful approach to editing personal stories
    • Good communication and reliability in meeting deadlines
    • Comfort working independently, with check-ins as needed

    Time Commitment

    • Flexible and remote — work on your own schedule
    • Estimated 3–5 hours per interview, depending on length and complexity
    • We're happy to start with a single interview as a trial before committing to more

    Why Volunteer?

    • Help preserve meaningful stories from members of our community
    • Build your portfolio with real editing work
    • Be part of an intergenerational project that fosters connection and appreciation
    • Flexible, low-pressure volunteer opportunity you can do from home

    How to Apply

Interested? Please reach out to Bethany Whitfield at bethany@georgetown-village.org or 202-999-8988 with a brief note about your editing experience (a portfolio or sample reel is welcome but not required). We'd love to hear from you!
