Descripción
The Literacy Volunteer Program supports elementary students who need extra help with reading comprehension and fluency. Volunteers meet one-on-one with an assigned student once a week for 20-30 minutes, listening to them read and offering encouragement. Along the way, volunteers often build meaningful relationships that boost a child’s confidence and help them develop a love of reading.
Program Details:
- Location: All Wayzata elementary schools
- Time Commitment: 20-30 minutes per week during the school day, November - May
- Support: Training provided
- Requirement: Age 18+, Online background check (free for volunteers)
Training & Orientation Timeline:
- Optional Literacy Training:
- Tuesday, October 13 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Ridgedale Library
- Monday, October 19 from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Ridgedale Library
- Volunteer Assignments: Emailed in October
- School Orientation: Late October
- Reading Sessions: November - May
