Bring comfort and companionship to patients receiving hospice care through Penn Medicine at Home. As a Patient Companion Volunteer, you’ll provide emotional support and a listening ear during one of life’s most meaningful journeys.
Volunteer responsibilities include:
- Visiting patients in their homes, assisted living facilities, or hospitals
- Reading aloud, sharing conversation, or simply offering quiet presence
- Supporting caregivers and families through empathy and compassion
- Helping patients feel seen and valued during their final chapter
Qualifications:
- Must be 18+ years old
- Background check and health screening required
- Comfortable being present with those facing end-of-life care
- Training provided — no medical experience needed
- Dependable, compassionate, and respectful of patient privacy
Time Commitment:
Flexible — as little as one hour per week can make a difference.
Serve with purpose. Help create moments of peace, comfort, and dignity.
Regions: Philadelphia, West Chester, and New Jersey

To apply, please complete our onine volunteer application at the link above. Once recieved, a member of our Volunteer Department will reach out to schedule an interview and discuss next steps.
Volunteers must:
- Be atleast 18 years old
- Complete background check, health screening, and orientation.
- Commit to ongoing participation (minimum a few hours per month)
