About the Green Burial Council
The Green Burial Council (GBC) is the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to advancing environmentally sustainable death care through education, certification, and advocacy. Since 2005, we've worked to expand access to green burial and empower consumers with trusted information.
We're looking for a Volunteer Grant Writer & Grants Researcher to help grow the green burial movement by identifying funding opportunities and supporting grant development for our programs and initiatives.

You'll work alongside our all-volunteer Board of Directors, receive mentorship and feedback on proposals, and gain hands-on experience supporting a national nonprofit advancing meaningful change.
Time Commitment: Approximately 15–20 hours per month (flexible)
Location: Fully remote
What You'll Do
- Research grant opportunities and prospective funders
- Draft letters of inquiry and grant proposals
- Assist with grant reports and funding updates
- Help maintain a grants calendar and track deadlines
- Collaborate with board members to gather program information and outcomes
- Participate in other fundraising initiatives as time and interest allow
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong writing, research, and organizational skills
- Grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit, or related experience preferred
- Interest in environmental sustainability, conservation, or green burial
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Familiarity with Google Workspace; experience with grant databases or CRMs is a plus
