Discord Community Moderator (Volunteer)

The Discord Moderator is a volunteer community support role responsible for helping maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging online space for members. This role plays an important part in fostering positive community interaction, enforcing server guidelines, and supporting the organization’s mission by helping ensure that our Discord remains inclusive, respectful, and accessible to all members of the community.

Primary Responsibilities

• Monitor Discord channels to help maintain a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment.
• Enforce server rules and community guidelines consistently and fairly.
• Welcome new members and help foster a positive, supportive atmosphere.
• Respond to tickets, reports, concerns, or conflicts calmly and professionally.
• Assist with organizing channels, roles, and basic server structure as needed.
• Help keep discussions on topic and redirect conversations when necessary.
• Collaborate with other moderators and organizational leaders to uphold community standards and foster engagement.
• Support community events, announcements, and general engagement efforts when available.

Tools and Access

The Discord Moderator will be provided with:

• Access to the organization’s Discord server
• Moderator permissions appropriate to their responsibilities
• Any relevant community guidelines, moderation policies, or internal communication channels
• Access to additional tools or platforms used to support community management, if needed

Qualifications

• Strong commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
• Ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
• Good judgment and the ability to remain calm in sensitive situations.
• Familiarity with Discord and basic moderation tools is preferred.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of online community safety, inclusion, and conflict de-escalation is helpful.
• Prior moderation or community management experience is a plus, but not required.

Time Commitment

This is a volunteer position with a flexible time commitment that may include regularly checking in on the server, responding to moderation needs, and occasionally communicating with other members between meetings or events.
