    About Uganda Village Project

Uganda Village Project is a U.S.-registered nonprofit that empowers underserved adolescents and women in rural Uganda by advancing access to sexual and reproductive health education and services. Our programs include obstetric fistula prevention, surgical repair and survivor reintegration, and adolescent reproductive health (ARH) programming delivered in schools and communities.

We envision a future where all Ugandan adolescents and women thrive in supportive communities, with full access to physical, mental, reproductive, and sexual health resources.

We are a small, grassroots organization where volunteer board members play a direct and meaningful role in our work.

    About the Role

UVP is seeking a Board Director who brings deep personal and professional ties to Uganda, combined with a global career and senior or executive-level standing in their field. Industry background is open, what matters is the network, the experience, and the credibility that comes with seniority.

This is primarily an ambassadorial role. The right candidate will use their standing and relationships to facilitate introductions and meetings with prospective partners.

Over time, this person will also play a key role in establishing a local Ugandan advisory/ governance board that will serve to provide in-country oversight and strategic grounding that strengthens UVP's accountability to the communities it serves.

This role will work closely with the Executive Director and local staff in Uganda. You'll attend board meetings and participate in governance, but your most valuable work will happen in between them.

    What You'll Work On

    • Serve as a senior-level ambassador for UVP in Uganda and within global networks connected to Uganda
    • Facilitate access to institutional partners through peer-to-peer engagement
    • Participate in UVP's Board of Directors including virtual board meetings and strategic planning workshops
    • Lead the groundwork for establishing a local Ugandan board: identifying candidates, shaping its mandate, and providing continuity between the two governance structures

    Who We're Looking For

    • Deep roots and/or strong ongoing ties to Uganda
    • Currently operating at a senior or executive level, in any sector
    • Global career experience whether in health, development, policy, academia, business, law, or another field
    • A network in Uganda
    • Commitment to women's health, maternal equity, and community-led development in Uganda

    What to Expect

    • Board meetings – approximately 8 per year – held virtually
    • Ad-hoc projects to support, maintain and develop relationships in Uganda
    • Direct working relationship with the ED
    • A genuine opportunity to make a measurable difference for a cause that changes lives

    Time Commitment

A few hours per month on average, with more active engagement during visits to Uganda or key organizational moments plus attendance at virtual board meetings.

    How to Apply

Interested candidates should send a brief cover note and resume or LinkedIn profile to info@ugandavillageproject.org outlining relevant experience and what draws you to this role. We review applications on a rolling basis, so early submissions are encouraged. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual conversation with the Executive Director and a current board member.
