OSINT Investigative Researcher - Missing Persons Analysis

Make a Real Impact in Missing Persons Investigations

    Position: Volunteer Investigative Researcher

Commitment: Weekly Engagement (Flexible) & Ad Hoc

    Who We Are:

Night Owl Reconnaissance (NOR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization specializing in OSINT-driven missing persons investigations. Our mission is to detect and prevent disappearances, support active investigations, and provide resources to those who have been recovered. We work alongside law enforcement, advocacy groups, and families to bring clarity to complex cases.

NOR is seeking Investigative Researcher to uncover leads and insights in active missing persons cases using open-source research, data analytics tools, and structured case work. This role is ideal for someone with a sharp eye for detail, strong critical thinking skills, and a passion for contributing to real-world investigations.

    About the Role:

As an Investigative Researcher, you will collaborate with NOR’s investigative team to gather and analyze open-source information related to missing persons cases. Your work may involve digital footprint reconstruction, social media profiling, geospatial analysis, timeline development, and identifying persons of interest. You'll help build case files that can be used internally or shared with relevant stakeholders and law enforcement when appropriate.

This is a dynamic position suited for those who enjoy digging deep, making connections, and translating raw data into actionable insight.

    Key Responsibilities:

      • Conduct structured open-source intelligence (OSINT) research using public records, databases, and digital platforms
      • Analyze case timelines, online behaviors, and relational networks
      • Identify investigative leads, digital assets, and potential witnesses
      • Collaborate with team members to validate findings and cross-reference data
      • Summarize findings in a clear and organized format for internal case files
      • Attend case briefings or team meetings as needed to contribute insights
      • Maintain ethical standards and respect for the privacy of all individuals involved

    Who Should Apply?

      • Willingness to learn or have knowledge of basic open-source and public record research.
      • You have experience or strong interest in OSINT, investigative research, journalism, criminology, or a related field
      • You enjoy digging into details and connecting dots across platforms
      • You’re comfortable using research tools, spreadsheets, and search techniques
      • You’re strongly self-directed and dependable
      • You care about supporting real people affected by disappearance and want your skills to have impact
      • The ability to research intuitively to uncover hard to find information.

    Why Volunteer with NOR?

      • Help make a tangible difference in the lives of missing persons and their families
      • Build real-world experience in digital investigations and OSINT practices
      • Work alongside a team of passionate analysts and researchers
      • Volunteer remotely with flexible scheduling that fits your life
      • Grow your skills in a mission-driven, collaborative environment
