Enrich Program Food Pantry Ambassador

Summary of Position: Volunteer will assist staff with completion of online form to process orders through the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank to routinely replenish Food Pharmacy stock in the Enrich Program. Assist with distribution of food daily to patients as needed.

Nature and Scope: The volunteer will assist patients and will have opportunities to learn new skills.

Training:

• Must attend Volunteer Services Orientation
• Position-specific training provided by department staff or experienced Volunteer

Availability: Mondays 11:30am – 3:30pm, Tuesdays – Fridays 9am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm

Specific Duties:

• Assists patient with food selection from a pick list.
• Organizes food when order arrives from food bank, sorting, tracking and assisting with monitoring of expiration dates.
• Other duties as required

Requirements:

• Must pass criminal background check
• Must pass tuberculosis and immunization screening
  • Ability to take instructions and communicate effectively with staff, patients and families
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
  • Ability to behave in a mature, positive manner and have a service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Ability to provide culturally competent and sensitive service for others
  • Ability to show initiative, be flexible and volunteer independently
• Ability to have knowledge of the building in order to escort patients, families, visitors and patients to the appropriate area of the facility
• Ability to protect the privacy and confidentiality of all patients and guests
• Ability to be dependable and organized
• Ability to have a professional attitude and appearance at all times

Physical Requirements:

• Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
