Make-A-Wish Illinois volunteers across all 102 counties are vital to delivering hope and resilience to children with critical illnesses. Right now, we have an urgent need for 250 volunteers to serve as Wish Celebration Volunteers, helping build anticipation and joy for children as they prepare for their life-changing wishes.
As a Wish Celebration Volunteer, you will:
✨ Create exciting wish countdowns, boosts, and special sendoffs
✨ Connect with wish families before and after their child’s wish
✨ Make a lasting impact with just a 1 to 6 month commitment (1 to 3 hours per month)
Wishes impact everyone involved — from the child fighting a critical illness to their family, medical team, and the volunteers who help bring it all to life. For wish kids, having a wish granted can inspire courage to continue treatment. For parents, it can be a turning point toward hope. For volunteers, donors, and communities, it is a reminder of the incredible good we are capable of when we come together.
Since 1985, Make-A-Wish Illinois has granted over 16,000 wishes through the dedication of more than 1,000 volunteers and a committed staff team. Every wish we grant is a step toward healing, strength, and transformation.

How to Become Active:
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Make-A-Wish Illinois! To get started, start with the following steps:
- Watch the Volunteer Orientation (14 minutes)
- After watching the recorded orientation, complete the volunteer application.
- Complete a Criminal Background Check – Once we receive your completed application, you will receive information about the required background check through FirstAdvantage. As standard procedure, all volunteers and staff members are required to complete a background for the safety of our wish children and families.
- Register for Wish Celebration Training (75 minutes) - When your background check is approved (1-3 days), you will receive a welcome message from us. In this email, you will find links to register for training and resources to become a wish celebration volunteer.
Our Wish Celebration Volunteers play a vital role in making wishes come true, and we look forward to having you experience the magic of a wish!
