The Treasurer is a volunteer voting member of the Board of Directors, responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial health and stewardship. This role plays a vital part in ensuring our organization operates with transparency, accountability, and sustainability, directly supporting our mission to provide accessible, affirming literary resources throughout East Tennessee, making a real community difference.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain general oversight of the organization’s finances and financial practices.
- Review income, expenses, and account balances regularly.
- Present financial updates to the Board at meetings.
- Support the development and monitoring of annual budgets.
- Help ensure funds are used responsibly and in alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
- Collaborate with other board members to support fundraising, grant reporting, and financial planning, helping to strengthen our organization’s future and community impact.
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Help manage and support the organization’s financial and administrative tools, including Zoho and other paid services.
- Basic understanding of nonprofit law, tax responsibilities, and financial compliance is preferred.
Tools and Access
The Treasurer will be provided with:
- A dedicated organization email address using the organization’s domain
- Access to Zoho.
- Access to other paid tools and platforms used to support board and financial operations
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to supporting the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision.
- Basic understanding of budgeting, bookkeeping, or financial oversight.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with other board members.
- Understanding of the law.
Prior nonprofit finance experience is helpful but not required.
Time Commitment
This is a volunteer board position with a flexible time commitment that may include attending board meetings, reviewing financial materials, and occasional email communication between meetings.

The ideal Treasurer is organized, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and passionate about supporting LGBTQIA2S+ inclusion, literacy, and community access. They will help guide the organization’s financial decisions, contributing to long-term growth and a stronger community presence.
