About Southwest Florida Sea Turtle Rescue
Southwest Florida Sea Turtle Rescue, Inc. (SWFLSTR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting sea turtles and their coastal habitats throughout Southwest Florida.
Our work is centered around five pillars: Rescue, Rehabilitate, Release, Protect, and Educate.
Our long-term vision is to establish a dedicated sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation facility serving Southwest Florida—a place where injured and sick sea turtles can receive professional care before returning to the wild, while also providing opportunities for conservation education and community engagement.
As a young and growing organization, we are currently building the foundation needed to make that vision a reality. We are developing community partnerships, expanding educational outreach, participating in local events, pursuing funding opportunities, and planning for the future facility.

About the Opportunity
Southwest Florida Sea Turtle Rescue is seeking an organized, dependable, and mission-driven individual to join our Board of Directors as Secretary.
The Secretary will play an important role in helping SWFLSTR maintain strong organizational records and good governance as the organization grows. This person will work alongside the Founder/Director, Treasurer, and other board members to help guide the organization's development.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to become more involved in nonprofit work, conservation, wildlife protection, or their local community and would like to have a meaningful role in helping build an organization from the ground up.
What You'll Do
- Attend and actively participate in board meetings.
- Take accurate meeting minutes and maintain official meeting records.
- Help organize and maintain board and organizational documents.
- Assist with meeting notices, agendas, and board communications.
- Participate in board discussions, planning, and organizational decisions.
- Help ensure important organizational records and documentation remain current and organized.
- Support the organization's leadership and other board members as needed.
- Contribute ideas and expertise that can help SWFLSTR grow and achieve its mission.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is:
- Organized and dependable
- Detail-oriented and comfortable keeping records
- A strong written communicator
- Comfortable using email and basic online tools such as Google Docs and Google Drive
- Able to attend scheduled board meetings and respond to occasional board communications
- Interested in sea turtle conservation, wildlife, environmental protection, nonprofit work, or community education
- Willing to be an active participant in the organization—not simply hold a title
Previous nonprofit or board experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are more interested in finding someone who is responsible, engaged, and genuinely excited about our mission.
You do not need to have experience working directly with sea turtles or wildlife.

This is an unpaid volunteer position. The anticipated time commitment is approximately 2–4 hours per month, although involvement may vary depending on organizational needs and upcoming projects.
