Volunteer: Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Agency

Our volunteer program is a unique, hands-on role that provides high impact change. Volunteers answer the call of our 24/7 crisis line at shifts of their choosing, assisting those calling with emotional support, planning for safety, and assisting in finding the next step for people who have experienced sexual assault and domestic violence.

No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to learn. Volunteers complete a 65 hour State Certification training to give them with specialized knowledge and skills to do the job effectively and responsibly. Many of our volunteers describe the training itself as both personally and professionally transformative. This program is seasonally offered as in-person training over the course of approximately 6 weeks in San Luis Obispo. It is designed to ensure that everyone feels fully prepared, supported, and confident as well as building knowledge and practical skills that are essential to doing this work. We understand that 65 hours is a commitment, and we want to be transparent about that upfront. Our goal is to set up volunteers for success and ensure the people we serve receive the highest standard of care.
