Steps Against Melanoma is a community-driven event that raises critical funds for melanoma research. The event brings together survivors, families, caregivers, and supporters for a meaningful and inspiring day.
Volunteer Role Overview
Volunteers are essential to the success of this event. They help create a welcoming, organized, and positive experience for all participants. Volunteers should be friendly, reliable, and comfortable engaging with the public.
Available Volunteer Positions
Registration Team
- Check in participants and assist with day-of registration
- Distribute event materials (t-shirts, wristbands, etc.)
- Answer basic event questions
- Ensure lines move efficiently and participants feel welcomed
Greeters / Welcome Team
- Welcome participants as they arrive
- Provide directions and general event information
- Help create a friendly and energetic atmosphere
- Assist with crowd flow and wayfinding
Mission & Activity Area Support
- Help manage activity tables, sponsor areas, or mission-focused displays
- Engage participants and answer questions when appropriate
- Keep areas organized and stocked
Time Commitment
Shifts vary by role but generally fall within:
- Arrival time is 8:00 AM for short training
- Event begins at 8:30 AM, opening remarks begin at 10:00 AM
- Shift ends at 10:00 AM
- Volunteers are welcome to partake in the walk but this is not a requirement
Qualifications
- Positive attitude and willingness to help
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Dependable and punctual
- Comfortable standing and being active for extended periods
