8/16 - Parking Lot Weeding at Kayak Point Regional Park

Kayak Point needs your help! Ivy and blackberry are both encroaching on the parking lots at Kayak Point, making the workload much higher for Parks operations and maintenance crews. Not only do the weeds make more work for staff, but they also endanger the forest at the park. This forest is especially important since the large trees stabilize the steep hillside by soaking up stormwater, preventing erosion, slowing down wind speeds, and more benefits.

We'll meet at the overflow lot to the right of the fee station on Sunday, August 16, at 10 AM. As a volunteer you are not required to pay the fee. The more weeds we remove, the more native plants volunteers will get to install this fall!

If you can make it, register online. Please wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty or snagged on prickly plants. Bring a full water bottle and a snack. Hand tools and gloves will be provided, but you can bring your own if you wish. Remember to bring rain gear if rain is in the forecast.

We may reschedule for safety if wind gusts are expected to be over 25 mph. There is plenty of shade at this work site, but no drinking water source, so please take the necessary precautions to have a fun time with us!
