Last year, Family Service Association served over one million meals to seniors and families across our community. We are proud of that number and honest about how it happens. It happens because people like you show up.
We are looking for 5 reliable volunteers to join us on the 4th Friday of every month at Norton Younglove Community Center for our USDA Commodity Food Distribution. A few hours of your time goes a long way for the families and seniors who count on this program.
Responsibilities
Sorting and organizing food items before distribution begins.
Preparing and packaging food for easy client pickup.
Greeting community members and guiding them through the process with a friendly attitude.
Keeping the space safe, orderly and welcoming throughout the event.
Following all health and safety guidelines provided during orientation.
Qualifications
Reliable and consistent. This is a monthly commitment and our clients count on us being there.
Able to stand for periods of time and lift up to 30 pounds comfortably.
Friendly, patient and genuinely interested in helping others.
16 years of age or older.
Willing to complete a background check and attend a brief orientation before starting.
Good to Know
Full training is provided. No experience necessary.
This opportunity is open to individuals, teens, active seniors and small groups of up to 5.
We are bus friendly. RTA Route 14 stops at Center and Michigan, steps from our door.
Donations are never required to volunteer, though we always appreciate community support.
We are easy to reach by bus. The RTA Route 14 stops right at Center Street and Michigan Avenue, which is just a short walk to our front door at 459 Center Street. Buses run on weekday schedules so it lines up perfectly with our morning hours.

Before your first shift you will complete a short background check and attend a brief orientation. Both are straightforward and our team walks you through everything.
On the day of, wear comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. We will have everything else you need ready for you.
One thing we want to be upfront about. Because this is a small team of 5, your consistency really matters. If something comes up and you cannot make it, just give us a heads up so we can fill the spot. Our neighbors are counting on us and we want to make sure no one is left waiting.
