About the Role
The ImpactKits Project is seeking a highly proactive, organized, and independent leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as Senior Vice President of Organizational Affairs, Strategy, and Integration.
This is a newly established, organization-wide leadership position created to strengthen how ImpactKits functions as a whole. The SVP of Organizational Affairs will work across the organization to help connect our leadership, volunteers, projects, systems, and priorities and ensure that important work continues moving forward.
This is a high-responsibility volunteer position. We are looking for someone who can step into a growing organization, quickly understand how it works, identify where things are getting stuck, and begin making meaningful improvements without needing to be given a step-by-step list of assignments.
Our ELT is largely composed of students and other individuals balancing ImpactKits with school, work, and other commitments. This position exists in part to provide additional organizational capacity and continuity as we grow.
The person in this role should be comfortable taking initiative, working independently, communicating across teams, and helping the organization stay organized even when other leaders have limited availability.
Role Overview
The SVP of Organizational Affairs will have a broad, cross-functional scope covering the overall health and effectiveness of ImpactKits as an organization.
Rather than leading one specific program or department, this role looks across the organization and helps ensure that our different teams are working toward shared priorities.
The SVP will work closely with the Executive Director and other members of the ELT while also working directly with coordinators, project leads, and volunteers when appropriate.
The role may involve stepping into different areas of the organization depending on what ImpactKits needs at a given time.
At its core, this position is about helping ImpactKits answer:
What are we doing, who is responsible, what needs to happen next, and what is preventing us from moving forward?
Key Areas of Responsibility
Organizational Leadership
- Provide organization-wide leadership and perspective across departments.
- Identify organizational challenges, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Help strengthen the structure and effectiveness of the ELT and broader leadership team.
- Support organizational decision-making and implementation.
- Help maintain continuity when leadership capacity changes.
- Provide an outside perspective on how ImpactKits can operate and grow more effectively.
Cross-Department Coordination
- Connect teams when projects or priorities cross departmental boundaries.
- Help prevent important work from becoming isolated within individual departments.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between ELT members, coordinators, and project leads.
- Help resolve organizational bottlenecks and competing priorities.
- Support organization-wide initiatives and major projects.
Organizational Priorities & Execution
- Maintain broad awareness of ImpactKits' major projects and priorities.
- Help ensure that organizational priorities translate into meaningful action.
- Identify work that has stalled, lacks clear ownership, or requires additional support.
- Help leadership prioritize limited time and capacity.
- Support consistent follow-through on important organizational commitments.
Leadership & Team Development
- Work with ELT members and coordinators to strengthen role clarity and accountability.
- Help identify gaps in leadership capacity and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Support the development of coordinators, project leads, and future organizational leaders.
- Help improve collaboration between leadership and volunteers.
- Contribute to leadership onboarding, transitions, and organizational continuity.
Systems & Organizational Improvement
- Evaluate how ImpactKits' existing systems, processes, and structures are functioning.
- Identify unnecessary complexity, communication gaps, and recurring organizational problems.
- Recommend and help implement improvements.
- Encourage practical systems that make it easier for volunteers and leaders to contribute effectively.
- Help ensure important organizational knowledge and processes are documented and sustainable.
Strategic Implementation
The SVP of Organizational Affairs will work alongside the Executive Director and ELT to help translate ImpactKits' broader strategic direction into organizational progress.
This may include supporting implementation of the Impact in Motion Strategic Plan — People, Impact, Possibility, helping leadership maintain focus on strategic priorities, and identifying organizational capacity or structural changes needed to achieve our goals.
The SVP will not independently determine ImpactKits' overall strategy, but will play an important role in helping the organization execute and sustain the direction established by its leadership.
A Hands-On Leadership Role
This position is intentionally designed for someone who does not need to be told what to do every step of the way.
You may join ImpactKits and discover that:
- A project needs an owner.
- A team needs clearer direction.
- Two departments need to coordinate.
- A process is unnecessarily complicated.
- Volunteers are unclear about how to contribute.
- A project has stalled.
- A leadership responsibility needs to be reconsidered.
- An organizational system is not working as intended.
We expect the person in this role to recognize these situations and take initiative.
You will have access to the organization's existing resources, systems, and documentation and will be expected to learn the organization by actively engaging with it.
You will not need to wait for the Executive Director or another ELT member to assign every task.
At the same time, this is a collaborative leadership role. The SVP should know when to act independently, when to coordinate with another leader, and when an issue requires Executive Director or ELT involvement.
Authority & Scope
The SVP of Organizational Affairs is a member of the Executive Leadership Team with an organization-wide mandate.
The role may:
- Coordinate across departments.
- Work directly with ELT members, coordinators, project leads, and volunteers.
- Request relevant project or organizational information.
- Identify and escalate organizational concerns.
- Recommend changes to structures, responsibilities, and processes.
- Initiate cross-functional collaboration.
- Help organize organization-wide initiatives.
- Recommend ways to improve organizational effectiveness.
This position does not replace the authority of individual ELT members over their respective areas. Its purpose is to connect the organization and strengthen its overall effectiveness, not to create unnecessary hierarchy.
Major organizational decisions, personnel decisions, policy changes, and other matters reserved for the Executive Director or ELT remain subject to the appropriate approval.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is naturally proactive and enjoys figuring things out.
The ideal candidate is:
- Highly organized and dependable.
- Comfortable taking initiative without constant direction.
- Strong at seeing both the big picture and important details.
- A clear and thoughtful communicator.
- Comfortable coordinating with people across different teams.
- Able to follow up and maintain accountability respectfully.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Good at identifying problems and developing practical solutions.
- Comfortable operating in an organization that is still developing.
- Able to work with students and volunteers with different levels of availability.
- Mature, trustworthy, and able to handle sensitive organizational information appropriately.
- Willing to question ineffective systems and suggest better approaches.
- Interested in building sustainable organizational capacity rather than simply completing individual tasks.
Experience in organizational leadership, project management, operations, nonprofit work, student organizations, community organizations, startups, program management, or similar environments may be helpful, but we care more about your ability to lead, organize, communicate, and take ownership than a specific résumé.
We are especially interested in people who can bring a fresh perspective to ImpactKits and are comfortable entering an organization that is still growing and helping shape what comes next.
Time Commitment
This is a significant volunteer leadership commitment of approximately 10–20 hours per week.
The SVP of Organizational Affairs is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and should be prepared to make a consistent commitment to the role.
This is not a casual volunteer position. The person in this role will have substantial responsibility and should be prepared to take ownership of organization-wide work.
At the same time, ImpactKits understands that our leaders have commitments outside of the organization. We do not expect constant availability or work around the clock.
We value consistent engagement, communication, initiative, and follow-through over simply being online for a certain number of hours.
What Success Looks Like
The SVP of Organizational Affairs should help ImpactKits become an organization where:
- Leaders understand their responsibilities.
- Teams communicate effectively across departments.
- Volunteers know how they can contribute.
- Projects have clear direction and ownership.
- Important work does not disappear when circumstances change.
- Organizational problems are identified and addressed.
- Leadership has the capacity to focus on meaningful work rather than constantly resolving preventable organizational issues.
- Systems support the people using them.
- Strategic priorities translate into real progress.
- ImpactKits can continue growing without becoming dependent on a small number of people holding everything together.
Ultimately, this role exists to help make ImpactKits more organized, more connected, more sustainable, and more capable of turning its ambitions into meaningful community impact.
Why This Role Matters
ImpactKits is still a young organization, and that creates an unusual opportunity for this position.
You will not simply be inheriting a finished department. You will be helping shape how an entire organization operates.
The SVP of Organizational Affairs will have the opportunity to work directly with the Executive Director and ELT, influence organizational structure and systems, identify opportunities for improvement, and help build the foundation for ImpactKits' next stage of growth.
We are looking for someone who wants more than a title; We are looking for someone who sees an organization with potential, sees what is getting in its way, and wants to help build what comes next.
The ImpactKits Project is committed to equal opportunity and providing an inclusive volunteer environment. We do not discriminate based on protected characteristics and provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals.
