Feline Rescue Network saves cats at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding and limited adoption opportunities by partnering with shelters and rescues, giving them the care, resources, and adoption opportunities they need to find safe and loving homes.

Our work depends on compassionate volunteers who are willing to give their time, energy, and skills to help cats in our care.

Position Description

Feline Rescue Network is seeking dependable and compassionate Shelter Volunteers to help provide daily care and support for the cats in our facility.

Shelter volunteers play an important role in keeping our cats healthy, comfortable, and ready for adoption. Volunteers may assist with cleaning, feeding, socialization, enrichment, laundry, organizing supplies, and maintaining a safe and welcoming shelter environment.

No previous animal shelter experience is required. We provide training and guidance to help volunteers feel confident in their role.

Responsibilities

Depending on training and shelter needs, volunteers may:

• Clean and sanitize cat rooms, kennels, litter boxes, and common areas
• Feed cats and provide fresh water
• Scoop and maintain litter boxes
• Provide enrichment, playtime, and socialization for cats
• Observe cats and communicate behavioral or medical concerns to staff
• Wash and organize laundry, dishes, toys, and shelter supplies
• Help maintain an organized and sanitary shelter environment
• Assist with preparing cats for adoption events
• Help with basic administrative or organizational tasks when needed
• Follow all shelter safety, sanitation, animal-handling, and confidentiality policies
• Work cooperatively with staff and other volunteers

Qualifications

We are looking for volunteers who are:

• Compassionate and respectful toward animals and people
• Dependable and able to follow through on scheduled volunteer shifts
• Comfortable working independently as well as with a team
• Willing to learn and follow shelter procedures
• Able to safely perform routine cleaning and physical tasks
• Comfortable working around cats of different ages, personalities, and needs

Previous animal care, veterinary, shelter, rescue, or customer service experience is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

Volunteer schedules are flexible and based on shelter needs and volunteer availability. Volunteers should be able to commit to a consistent schedule whenever possible.

New volunteers will complete an initial training session before beginning independent shelter volunteer shifts.

Training

All new shelter volunteers receive orientation materials and hands-on training. Volunteers will be trained on shelter procedures, sanitation, cat handling, safety, enrichment, and other responsibilities appropriate to their role.

Additional training may be provided for volunteers interested in specialized opportunities.
