SAT Test Prep Instructor- Minds Matter DC

For over 10 years, Minds Matter DC has connected driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Volunteer with Minds Matter DC and help low-income students achieve their college dreams.

SAT Instructor Overview:

• Volunteer SAT Instructors support high school students in building the academic skills and confidence needed to succeed on the SAT.
• Instructors co-create weekly lesson plans (either math or English Language Arts) to deliver structured, engaging lessons while also adapting instruction to meet student needs.
• Track student understanding through practice problems and assessments.
• Identify areas where students need additional support & communicate insights with the instructor team to refine instruction.
• Foster a supportive and motivating learning environment.
• Help students build effective test-taking strategies and confidence.

Time Commitment:

• Out-of-Session
  • Approximately 2 summer planning session days (4 hours each)
  • Monthly team meetings (remote)
• In Session
  • Volunteers commit to their role for a least one academic year
  • Each academic year contains about 25 sessions from September to May
  • Sessions are 2 hours on Saturdays from 10:00am - 12:00pm. There are no sessions over major holidays or school breaks.
  • Volunteers are required to attend at least 80% of the sessions per year.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Graduate of a four-year college or university
• Team-oriented, responsive, active listener who can serve as a role model for young people
• Able to pass a background check
• Able to commit to at least one academic year
• Available on Saturdays
