    Position Overview

    We are looking for a dedicated volunteer to support our Toronto office Reception team. This individual will be on-site each Tuesday and Wednesday, our busiest days, to cover lunch breaks and provide additional support throughout the day. They will also cover full days from September 22–29, 2025, and be available on short notice to cover Reception if our staff member is away due to illness or other needs.

    Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources Operations, the Receptionist Volunteer acts as the first point of contact for all visitors to Arthritis Society Canada’s Toronto office. Main responsibilities include ensuring the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of reception, delivering excellence in customer service, handling and triaging incoming calls and emails, and supporting general office administration, including light housekeeping.

    Time Commitment

    This is a long-term volunteer opportunity until December 2025. Volunteers are expected to commit at least two days per week, preferably Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and provide coverage during September 22–29, 2025, as well as be available on short notice if needed. The position is based at the Toronto Office, 220 Bay St. #300.

    Key Areas of Responsibility

    The Receptionist Volunteer will greet visitors in a professional and welcoming manner, informing relevant staff of their arrival. They will handle incoming calls to the main reception line professionally and promptly, review, triage, and respond to general voicemails and emails, and review the Toronto fax inbox, forwarding confidential referrals and patient details to AREP as needed. Maintaining a consistent presence at the reception desk during business hours and providing light administrative and housekeeping support are also key components of this role.

    Desired Skills, Attributes & Qualifications

    The ideal candidate has experience in customer service or client-facing roles, ensuring smooth day-to-day reception operations. They are professional, courteous, and reliable when interacting with staff, visitors, and external clients. Strong oral and written communication skills are required, with French language skills considered an asset. The role also requires a high level of discretion, strong organizational and multitasking abilities, and comfort with Microsoft Office and other technology tools.

    Availability & Working Environment

    This is an in-person volunteer opportunity at our Toronto office. Volunteers must be available on the agreed-upon days and able to commute reliably to the site.

    Major Contacts

    Volunteers will work closely with the Senior Director, HR Operations, the Receptionist, and interact with internal and external clients of Arthritis Society Canada, including staff, AREP patients, donors, suppliers, building maintenance, and other visitors.
