Conversation Group Leader Needed- Help adult immigrants and refugees practice English

Position Title: Conversation Circle Leader

Conversation circle is a welcoming space for students who attend our weekly English classes to gain extra speaking and listening practice in English. Our Conversation circle leader will help lead students in a 1 hour conversation on a topic. Topics change weekly and can also be suggested by students. Examples include but are not limited to, hobbies, healthcare, travel, food/cooking and holidays.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or current enrollment in a Bachelor’s Program
• One year of teaching experience preferred but not required
• Ability to obtain PA-based clearances including: State Police, FBI Criminal Background, and Child Abuse Clearances
• Fluency in the English language (no other languages required)
• Ability to log into Zoom

Responsibilities:

• Record weekly attendance
• Commit to a virtual meeting every Monday morning for 1 hour
• Notify students if conversation class needs to be canceled
• Create a safe and welcoming space for discussion
• Generate a short series of questions to get the conversation started each week (resources provided by Catholic Charities)
• Complete necessary training and paperwork

Location and Scheduling:

Volunteers are needed Monday mornings for 1 hour. The group will meet virtually using the Zoom platform.
