Role Overview
Creshendo is seeking a Director of Research, Narrative, and Advocacy to lead our thought leadership, publishing strategy, and research ecosystem. This role shapes how lived experience, research, and storytelling come together to influence public discourse, partnerships, and systems change.
The Director will guide a growing, distributed research team, develop external partnerships, and build pathways for emerging researchers, including students from displaced backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
1.Strategic Leadership
• Define editorial vision, themes, and priorities across research and publishing
• Shape and maintain Creshendo’s voice across all outputs
• Lead development of flagship pieces that reflect Creshendo’s perspective
2. Research Team Leadership
• Guide and support a distributed team of researchers and contributors
• Establish clear roles, expectations, and contribution pathways
• Foster a strong culture of collaboration, quality, and accountability
3.Publishing and Thought Leadership
• Oversee content direction across Substack and external platforms
• Curate high-quality contributions from internal and external writers
• Ensure alignment between research, storytelling, and advocacy outputs
4.External Partnerships and Contributors
• Build relationships with universities, researchers, and partner organizations
• Invite and manage guest contributors, including individuals from displaced backgrounds
• Identify opportunities for op-eds, collaborations, and external visibility
5.University and Research Programs
• Oversee development of student research initiatives and partnerships
• Guide structure for research cohorts, mentorship, and publication pathways
• Support selection and development of student-led research projects
6.Performance and Growth
• Define and track KPIs related to publishing, engagement, and partnerships
• Contribute to quarterly updates and organizational strategy
• Support development of revenue pathways through research and partnerships
Profile
• Strong background in research, publishing, thought leadership, or related fields
• Experience leading teams, programs, or research initiatives
• Ability to bridge research, storytelling, and advocacy
• Experience working with academic institutions, students, or research cohorts is a strong plus
• Clear editorial judgment and strong communication skills
• Interest in migration, displacement, and community-led systems

• Volunteer role
• Estimated 10 to 15 hours per week
