NAAAP New York is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), all-volunteer, AAPI professional organization that promotes the career advancement and leadership development of Asian American professionals in all fields through professional development, community service, and social events. We are the founding chapter of the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP), with a history dating back to 1982.
About the Role
The Media Specialist - Photographer will capture high-quality images at NAAAP NY events, workshops, and community programs. Your work will directly support our storytelling, marketing, and community engagement efforts.
This is an excellent opportunity for new photographers looking to build their portfolio, expand their network, and gain experience in nonprofit and event photography.
Key Responsibilities
Event Photography (60%)
- Photograph NAAAP NY events, workshops, community gatherings, and special programs.
- Capture candid moments, portraits, speakers, and group shots that reflect our mission and community.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality visual storytelling aligned with our brand standards.
Photo Editing & Delivery (20%)
- Select, edit, and deliver photos within agreed-upon timelines.
- Provide organized digital files suitable for social media, newsletters, and marketing use.
Collaboration & Coordination (10%)
- Coordinate with the Marketing & Communications team and event leads for photography needs and run-of-show details.
- Attend pre-event briefings to understand goals, key moments, and shot lists.
Branding & Asset Management (10%)
- Maintain cohesive visual style across images.
- Upload assets to designated folders and work with the team on archiving.
Qualifications
- Experience in events, lifestyle, or portrait photography a plus. All experience levels are welcome!
- Ability to shoot in a variety of indoor and outdoor lighting environments.
- Owns or has access to professional photography equipment.
- Strong communication and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to fast-paced event environments.
- Passion for the AAPI community and nonprofit work is a strong plus.
Time Commitment
Flexible and event-based (typically evenings or weekends).
Photographers should be able to commit to at least 1-3 events per year.
