Help Kids Grow - Community LINC Children's Program

Community LINC provides transitional housing for homeless families on our campus at 40th and Troost, giving them the safety and skills to break the cycle of homelessness.

While parents are in classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights, their children attend our Children's Program, where they are taught life skills, resiliency, and academic lessons.

While Community LINC Staff organize the lessons and oversee every class session, volunteers are needed to provide extra support! Our volunteer team assists children with their lessons, projects, and crafts, helps prepare meals, and makes sure the nights go smoothly!

We are always accepting new additions to our volunteer team! If you enjoy engaging with children of all ages (we have kids ages 1-17 in our program), then this is the right place for you!

Children's Program meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7:30, Consistency is key in this position and requires at least a 6 month, once a week commitment.

    Volunteer Needs

We are also seeking consistent volunteers to support our Children’s Program across all age groups:

    • Preschool
    • Pre-K
    • Elementary
    • Middle School
    • High School

Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm–7:30pm. Consistency is especially important, as our children benefit greatly from seeing familiar, trusted faces each week.

What We Are Looking For in Staff and Volunteers

We are seeking positive, dependable individuals who:

    • Genuinely care for children and youth
    • Are respectful of and responsive to children from diverse backgrounds
    • Understand, or are willing to learn about, trauma-informed care
    • Can offer patience, encouragement, and emotional safety
    • Are open to guidance, structure, and collaboration with program staff

Clear Expectations for New Staff and Volunteers

To ensure the best experience for both our children and our team, we set the following expectations:

    • Arrive on time and remain fully present during program hours
    • Engage actively with children rather than observing from a distance
    • Follow program routines, safety guidelines, and staff direction
    • Use calm, respectful communication at all times
    • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
    • Commit to consistency whenever possible, understanding that trust is built over time
    • Our Children’s Program is not just childcare—it is a place of healing, stability, and growth. Every staff member and volunteer plays a vital role in helping our children feel seen, safe, and supported.
