When City Harvest was founded in 1982, it was run entirely by volunteers who connected a handful of neighborhood restaurants to food programs serving those in need.
Now, over 40 years later, City Harvest volunteers remain a critical part of our food rescue operations. Whether you give your time at one of our nine Mobile Markets, rescue fresh produce at our Greenmarket Rescues, or come out to our Food Rescue Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn to repackage delicious produce into smaller mesh bags - your time and passion are important resources in the fight against hunger.
We offer a wide variety of individual and group volunteer opportunities - including our Nutrition Education Program, Mobile Markets, Greenmarket Rescues, and Repacks. If you haven't volunteered with us before, please sign up for one of our New Volunteer Orientations held bi-monthly on Zoom, for information on our current opportunities.
