The Wicomico County Health Department, located in Salisbury, MD, is seeking a half-time AmeriCorps member for the 2026-2027 service year to serve in their Adolescent Health (Teen Pregnancy Prevention) program.
The Wicomico County Health Department’s Adolescent Health (Teen Pregnancy Prevention) program provides prevention and education programs targeting non-parenting teenagers and parents of pre-teens and teenagers in Wicomico County. The multi-faceted approach consists of three components:
- GEMS, after school abstinence-only program for middle school females, which reaches approximately 50 females ages 10-14 years old.
- Personal Responsibility & Education Program (PREP)- a community-based comprehensive sexuality program for young people ages 12-19, which reaches approximately 50 male and female youth.
- Parents Matter! campaign that encourages open communication between parents and their children on sexuality issues, which reaches approximately 25 parents.
Member Responsibilities to include:
- Assisting in organization, planning, implementation and evaluation of GEMS, teen pregnancy prevention program, for middle school females and their parents/caregivers.
- Assisting in organization, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Personal Responsibility and Education program (PREP), a community-based comprehensive sexuality program for males and females ages 12-19 and their parents/caregivers.
- Update attendance records and other paperwork
- Shopping/ordering incentives
- Filing
- Health Fairs
- Assist in health presentations
- Provide mentoring
- Contact parents/caregivers
- Meet with school officials
- Participating in staff meetings/trainings
- Other to be determined by program needs and service member interests
Requirements for applicants include the following:
- Have a strong interest in serving the community
- Be able to relate to diverse populations
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Able to provide copy of either high school diploma, GED, or college transcript
- Have reliabletransportation
- Be available to attend the free, AmeriCorps class at SU alternate Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., during the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal History Check, which includes FBI fingerprinting
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien
- Applicants DO NOT need to be college students, anyone from the community who fits the above requirements may participate.

- An education award of $3,697 for future educational expenses or repayment of student loans
- members who are age 55 or older may gift their ed. award to a child or grandchild
- Federal studentloan forbearance while in service,with exemption from paying interestaccrued during that time
- 8 tuition-free credits at Salisbury University for completion of training course
- Access to AmeriCorps Alumni Network
Applicants for this position must be available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Members will begin on or after August 15th, 2026 and must complete 900 hours by August 14th, 2027.
This position is offered through a partnership with ShoreCorps, the AmeriCorps program at Salisbury University. It is contingent upon federal funding and approval of the AmeriCorps office.
