    Sattya Media Arts Collective

Sattya Media Arts Collective is seeking a short-term organizational consultant or advisor to support us during a period of transition, consolidation, and renewed focus on sustainability.

Sattya has been part of Kathmandu’s creative ecosystem since 2010. Over the years, we have grown through many phases, projects, and experiments. We are now intentionally stepping back to simplify our structure, strengthen internal systems, and build clearer pathways for earned income and team sustainability, while staying true to our values and informal, community-driven culture.

This is not a traditional consultancy role and not a corporate NGO assignment. It is a hands-on, thinking-and-doing role, working closely with the Director and a small core team.

This role is intentionally limited in scope. We are not looking for someone to “fix” Sattya or redesign it into a formal NGO. We are looking for a thoughtful, experienced partner who can help us simplify, prioritize, and make better decisions during this transition period.

What we are trying to do right now

    • Reopen and stabilize two earned-income spaces (Art Cafe and Coworking)
    • Clarify internal roles, responsibilities, and workflows
    • Create light but effective systems for operations, people, and finances
    • Reduce over-reliance on grants and founder self-funding
    • Protect Sattya’s creative, informal, and inclusive culture while becoming more functional and sustainable

    Areas where support is needed

The consultant will help us think through and strengthen some of the following areas (not all, scope will be defined together):

    • Organizational structure and decision-making flow
    • Short- and medium-term strategy (next 6–18 months)
    • Roles, responsibilities, and accountability systems
    • Simple monitoring and reflection frameworks (not heavy M&E)
    • Communications clarity (internal and external)
    • Fundraising strategy in balance with earned income
    • Project and event management workflows
    • Human resources basics and people care
    • Organizational best practices appropriate to a small, creative, community-led space

    Who this is for

The ideal person is someone who:

    • Has experience running or managing a non-profit, creative organization, or social enterprise
    • Is comfortable with ambiguity, informality, and limited resources
    • Understands the realities of grassroots work in non-Western contexts
    • Can help simplify, prioritize, and sequence decisions
    • Enjoys working closely with founders and small teams
    • Is pragmatic, not prescriptive

We especially welcome people with experience in:

    • Community arts spaces
    • Cultural organizations
    • Creative hubs or coworking spaces
    • Hybrid non-profit / earned-income models

    Time commitment

    • 3 months preferred
    • Part-time or flexible schedule
    • Can be based in Kathmandu

    Compensation

Due to current funding limitations, this position is unpaid.

    What we offer instead:

    • Close collaboration with a long-running, respected arts organization
    • Deep insight into building creative infrastructure in Nepal
    • Meaningful contribution during a critical transition phase
    • Inclusion in Sattya’s community, programs, and events
    • Strong references and the possibility of future paid project-based roles as funding stabilizes

    Working style

    Sattya is:

    • Informal but serious
    • Creative but accountable
    • Relationship-driven
    • Open to experimentation

    We value:

    • Transparency
    • Mutual respect
    • Shared responsibility
    • Learning by doing

    How to apply

Please send a short note explaining:

    • Your background and relevant experience
    • Why Sattya interests you
    • Your availability and preferred working style

We genuinely look forward to learning from you, sharing knowledge, and working side by side to strengthen Sattya’s next chapter.
