Pet Therapy for Holistic Care

At Trinity Health at Home Hospice, we believe in caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Our Pet Therapy Program brings comfort, companionship, and joy to hospice patients through the healing presence of certified therapy dogs.

A friendly visit from a therapy dog can provide emotional support, reduce stress and anxiety, encourage conversation, and create meaningful moments for patients and their families.

How You and Your Dog Can Help

By becoming a Pet Therapy volunteer, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of hospice patients through the unconditional love and comfort your dog provides.

Dog Requirements

• Must be a dog (only dogs are accepted at this time)
• Must be at least 2 years of age
• Must be registered through a nationally recognized therapy dog organization that provides screening, certification, and liability insurance
• Must be current on all required vaccinations and immunizations (proof required)
• Must provide documentation of a comprehensive examination by a licensed veterinarian

Handler Requirements

All pet therapy handlers must complete the hospice volunteer onboarding process, including:

• Background checks
• Fingerprinting
• TB testing
• Hospice orientation and training

There is no cost to you for any of these requirements.
