Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated volunteer Grant Writer to help secure funding opportunities that will enable us to expand our services, invest in virtual infrastructure, and reduce wait times for the 175+ individuals we currently turn away annually due to capacity constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Grant Research & Identification
- Research and identify federal, state, local, and private foundation grant opportunities aligned with our mission
- Maintain a comprehensive database of potential funding sources and application deadlines
- Monitor grant announcements and funding trends in nonprofit financial services
- Grant Writing & Application Management
- Write compelling grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation
- Collaborate with leadership to gather program data, outcomes, and organizational information
- Ensure all applications meet funder requirements and are submitted on time
- Develop and maintain grant templates and boilerplate language
- Relationship Building & Stewardship
- Build relationships with program officers and foundation representatives
- Prepare and submit required progress reports and renewals
- Assist with donor stewardship activities and recognition events
- Strategic Planning Support
- Work with leadership to align funding requests with organizational strategic goals
- Provide input on program development to enhance fundability
- Track and analyze grant success rates and funding trends
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience in grant writing
- Proven track record of successful grant writing (minimum 2-3 years experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong research and analytical abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online research tools
Preferred:
- Experience with nonprofit financial services or community development organizations
- Knowledge of federal grant databases (Grants.gov, Foundation Directory Online)
- Familiarity with Ohio state funding opportunities
- Previous volunteer or nonprofit sector experience
Time Commitment
