    Volunteer in Zambia 2027: School & Community Development Projects

    BuildHope Foundation is seeking motivated international volunteers to support school sanitation projects in underserved communities across Zambia.

    Our projects focus on constructing and renovating clean, safe and environmentally responsible waterborne toilet facilities for schools that lack adequate sanitation. Volunteers will work alongside local community members and skilled construction personnel to help create healthier and more dignified learning environments for children.

    Depending on skills and physical ability, activities may include bricklaying, painting, mixing mortar, carrying materials, site preparation, landscaping, installing fittings and general construction support.

    Key responsibilities include:

      • Participating in assigned construction and renovation activities;
      • Working alongside skilled workers, community members and fellow volunteers;
      • Following health, safety and project-site guidelines;
      • Treating children and community members with dignity and respect; and
      • Supporting positive cultural exchange and community engagement.

    No professional construction experience is required. However, volunteers with experience in construction, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, engineering, architecture, environmental health or project management are especially encouraged to apply. Tasks will be allocated according to each volunteer’s skills and abilities.

    Beyond volunteering, participants will have opportunities to experience Zambia’s culture, warm hospitality and local communities. Depending on individual travel arrangements, volunteers may also explore attractions such as Victoria Falls and Zambia’s wildlife, including opportunities to see some of Africa’s Big Five.

    All interactions with children will follow appropriate child-safeguarding practices.

    Further information on project dates, locations, accommodation, transportation, programme costs, tourism activities and orientation will be provided to selected applicants

    Instrucciones:

    This opportunity is intended for an individual who can organise and lead a team of at least five international volunteers.

    The group leader will be expected to coordinate the recruitment and preparation of team members and support fundraising efforts. Volunteers must raise or provide funds to cover their accommodation and other agreed programme-related expenses. The team will also make an agreed financial contribution towards the school sanitation project.

    Please provide details about your leadership, fundraising or group-coordination experience, the estimated number of volunteers you can organise, your country of departure and your preferred participation dates between March and October 2027.

    You may apply while still recruiting your team. However, participation will only be confirmed once a minimum group of five volunteers has been secured and the programme arrangements, costs and project contribution have been agreed upon with BuildHope Foundation.

    Shortlisted group leaders will be invited to an online introductory meeting, during which BuildHope Foundation will provide detailed information about the project, proposed location, accommodation, transportation, programme costs, fundraising expectations, health and safety arrangements and next steps
