Role Overview
The African Think Tank (TATT) is building a global, members-only digital platform designed to deepen connection, collaboration, and opportunity across the African Diaspora.
We are looking for a Volunteer Community Manager who understands how to build, engage, and sustain online communities—not just manage them.
This role is central to ensuring that our membership platform is not a passive space, but a living ecosystem of connection, value, and belonging.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Growth
- Design and implement strategies to increase member participation and retention
- Initiate and moderate discussions that spark meaningful dialogue and connection
- Welcome and onboard new members to ensure a strong first experience
- Identify and activate community champions and contributors
Platform Management
- Manage day-to-day activity on the membership platform (e.g. Circle, Mighty Networks, Slack, etc.)
- Organize content, discussions, and groups for clarity and accessibility
- Ensure a consistent, engaging, and respectful community environment
Content & Programming
- Collaborate with the TATT team to plan and execute virtual engagement moments (AMAs, discussions, member spotlights, etc.)
- Curate and share relevant resources aligned with TATT’s mission (career, entrepreneurship, culture, finance)
- Translate offline programming (events, workshops, TATT Talks) into online community experiences
Insights & Feedback
- Track engagement trends and provide regular insights and recommendations
- Gather feedback from members to improve platform experience and value
- Identify gaps and opportunities for deeper engagement
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is both strategic and hands-on.
Required Experience
- Experience managing or moderating digital communities or membership platforms
- Strong understanding of online engagement dynamics
Preferred Qualities
- Strong communication and storytelling skills
- Experience with tools such as Slack, Circle, Discord, Mighty Networks, or similar

- Highly organized and proactive
- Passion for community-building within the African Diaspora
- Comfortable working in a fast-growing, volunteer-driven environment
What You’ll Gain
- Direct experience shaping a global digital community
- Leadership opportunity within a fast-growing diaspora organization
- Exposure to TATT’s network of professionals, entrepreneurs, and partners
- Opportunity to contribute to a platform targeting 100+ members in Year 1 with high retention goals
