    Position Summary

    Empowered Futures is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented IT Programmer to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s technology systems and software applications. The IT Programmer will work closely with internal stakeholders to design technical solutions that improve operational efficiency, data management, reporting, and service delivery. This role requires strong programming expertise, problem-solving capability, and the ability to collaborate across departments in a mission-driven environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications, databases, and internal systems.
    • Write clean, scalable, and efficient code following organizational standards and best practices.
    • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and technical issues.
    • Collaborate with department leaders to gather technical requirements and implement system enhancements.
    • Maintain integrations between internal platforms, third-party software, and cloud-based services.
    • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data-processing tools.
    • Support cybersecurity and data protection initiatives through secure programming practices.
    • Perform system upgrades, patches, and software performance optimization.
    • Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and process workflows.
    • Assist with IT infrastructure projects and provide technical support when needed.
    • Participate in testing, deployment, and change-management activities.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.
    • 2+ years of programming or software development experience.
    • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript, or PHP.
    • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
    • Knowledge of web technologies including HTML, CSS, REST APIs, and modern frameworks.
    • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience working in nonprofit, education, healthcare, or community-service environments preferred
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud preferred
    • Certification in programming, database management, or cloud technologies is a plus.

    Position Details

    This is a part‑time, volunteer (unpaid) position with a recommended commitment of 8–10 hours per week.
