Overview:
Iron Village Preparatory Academy is seeking a committed, energetic Volunteer WELLpower Instructor to lead in-person fitness and wellness sessions for students ages 5–14. This role supports our WELLpower initiative—a leadership, fitness and social-emotional learning program that helps students build confidence, movement habits and emotional strength.
The role includes two 35-minute sessions each week on Mondays and Wednesdays during the school day. This is a hands-on opportunity for anyone passionate about youth wellness, including college students studying education, sports science, psychology or related fields.
Responsibilities:
- Lead engaging 35-minute sessions twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) focused on movement, teamwork and social-emotional wellness
- Review and implement weekly session plans provided by the WELLpower Coordinator
- Encourage sportsmanship, self-awareness and cooperation in all activities
- Facilitate light discussions or reflections related to character-building themes (such as effort, motivation or leadership)
- Monitor and support student safety during physical activities
- Offer feedback to the team about student engagement or session improvements
- Be a consistent, positive presence for students and a role model for well-being and leadership
Qualifications:
- Interest or experience in youth fitness, physical education, SEL (social-emotional learning) or leadership development
- Background in education, sports management, public health, youth development or related fields preferred
- Experience working with children (camp counselor, tutor, coach, mentor or teacher assistant all welcome)
- Ability to lead light physical activity, movement and wellness-based games
- Clear, encouraging communication style
- Must pass a background check (coordinated and paid for by Iron Village Prep)
- Availability on Mondays and Wednesdays during school hours (specific times determined based on school schedule)
Time Commitment:
- 2 sessions/week (35 minutes each) + brief prep and check-in
- Approx. 2–3 hours/week
- Commitment from September–December 2025, with option to continue into Spring 2026
Compensation:
This is a volunteer position. While it is unpaid, volunteers receive:
- Valuable experience for careers in education, coaching, social work or child development
- Mentorship and references from Iron Village Prep leadership
- Priority consideration for future paid roles as funding becomes available
