English Classroom Assistant (In-Person) – Help Adult Immigrants Learn English and Digital Literacy Skills

Description:

The Immigrant Learning Center (ILC) in Malden, MA, is seeking volunteer English Classroom Assistants to help adult immigrants and refugees learn English and build digital literacy skills using Chromebooks. Volunteers work under the supervision of an experienced teacher to support classroom instruction, assist students during activities, and provide one-on-one help with language and technology tasks. You’ll make a real impact helping students gain confidence in both English and digital communication.

Class Schedule:

• Morning classes: Monday–Friday, 9:00–11:30 AM
• Afternoon classes: Monday–Thursday, 12:00–3:00 PM

Requirements:

• Commit to a consistent weekly schedule of at least one morning (M-F, 9:00-11:30) or afternoon (M-Th, 12:00-3:00) class for a minimum of four months
• Proficient English speaking and writing skills
• Intermediate computer skills (Chromebook-specific training provided during orientation)
• CORI background check and reference check
• Be willing to follow the lead of the classroom teacher
• Demonstrate patience, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diverse backgrounds
