Research Fellow: Domestic Militarization Watch

The Domestic Militarization Watch is a new initiative tracking how federal and local authorities are using military power against U.S. communities. This fellowship will document deployments of federal troops, police militarization, and the impacts on civil liberties, especially in marginalized neighborhoods.

The Research Fellow will play a key role in collecting, analyzing, and presenting this information for public education and advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research on federal and state military deployments, ICE raids, and related law enforcement actions in U.S. cities.
• Track legislation, legal challenges, and media reports related to domestic militarization.
• Create and maintain entries for the Domestic Militarization Watch tracker (Excel/Google Sheets).
• Summarize key findings for publication in PEP reports, social media posts, and advocacy briefs.
• Coordinate with local activists, journalists, and scholars to gather verified community testimonies.
• Contribute to quarterly reports, policy briefs, and infographics that document trends and impacts.
• Attend monthly check-ins with the Executive Director and other fellows.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate, graduate student, or early-career researcher in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, Sociology, Human Rights, or related field.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Interest in peace studies, demilitarization, or social justice.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Experience with Google Workspace; familiarity with Airtable, Excel, or data visualization tools is a plus.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and nonviolence in both research and practice.
