    About First & Gold Foundation

    First & Gold Foundation is a mission-driven nonprofit that uses football as a platform to develop leaders, expand opportunities, and promote equity for youth and families. We provide student-athletes in Charlotte, NC, and Minneapolis, MN, with access to programs that support success on the field, in the classroom, and in life.

    Position Overview

    The volunteer Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior leadership role responsible for the financial health, integrity, and sustainability of First & Gold Foundation. Reporting to the Executive Director, the CFO oversees all financial operations, ensures compliance with nonprofit financial standards, and provides strategic financial guidance to the Board of Directors and leadership team. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the financial infrastructure of a growing, mission-driven organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting • Provide financial forecasting and scenario planning to support organizational growth • Develop and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the Executive Director and Board • Provide financial insights on program costs, scholarships, and special initiatives
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, support preparation of IRS filings (Form 990) and state-level nonprofit reporting requirements, and grant reporting obligations
    • Monitor cash flow, reserves, and investment of Foundation funds
    • Support grant applications and donor reporting with accurate financial data
    • Coordinate with external auditors and accountants as needed
    • Advise leadership on financial strategy, risk, and sustainability planning
    • Attend Board meetings and present financial reports on a regular basis
    • Partner with the Operations Manager and HR Manager on budget planning for programs and staffing

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred
    • Minimum 5 years of financial management experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred
    • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP for nonprofits), IRS Form 990, and fund accounting
    • Experience with financial software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar)
    • Exceptional attention to detail, integrity, and discretion with sensitive financial information
    • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-growing organization
    • Passion for youth development, equity, and community-based programming
