    Descripción

    Hello 🙂

We are Sattya Media Arts Collective, a community arts space in Kathmandu that has been part of the city’s creative ecosystem since 2010.

After many years of programming, projects, and collaborations, Sattya is currently in a rebuilding and refocusing phase. We are simplifying, strengthening our foundations, and reopening key spaces that help make the organization more sustainable and accessible to the community.

We are looking for a small number of reliable, engaged international volunteers / creative residents to join us during this transition period and support day-to-day operations, creative programs, and space activation.

    About Sattya

Sattya aims to be a catalyst for creativity, learning, and community connection. We support artists, makers, storytellers, and curious people through hands-on workshops, events, shared spaces, and collaborative projects.

Our work sits at the intersection of:

    • Art, media, and storytelling
    • DIY and hands-on learning
    • Community dialogue and social justice
    • Creative exchange across cultures

Sattya is not a traditional NGO or institution. We operate as a community-driven, participation-based space, where learning happens through doing and shared responsibility.

    Areas where support is needed

We are especially interested in people with experience or interest in one or more of the following:

    Operations & Organization

    • Helping set up simple systems and workflows
    • Supporting daily operations of shared spaces
    • Tracking usage, schedules, and basic reporting

    Cafe & Coworking Support

    • Helping open and host the Art Cafe
    • Supporting Coworking hours and visitors
    • Creating a welcoming, calm environment

    Communications & Documentation

    • Social media posting and content support
    • Documenting workshops, events, and daily life
    • Helping share what’s happening at Sattya

    Programs & Events

    • Assisting with workshops and community events
    • Supporting film screenings, talks, and gatherings
    • Helping with setup, hosting, and follow-up

Creative & Making Skills (a plus, not required)

    • Visual arts, design, photography, audio, film
    • Wood, metal, craft, or hands-on making
    • Teaching or facilitating informal workshops

If you don’t see your skill listed but have a strong work ethic, curiosity, and willingness to learn, we still encourage you to apply.

    Time commitment

    We ask for:

    • Monday–Friday, 10am–3pm
    • Minimum 1-month commitment

Consistency matters more to us than speed or perfection.

If you cannot commit to these hours but are interested in a project-based or alternative schedule, you may still apply and explain your availability.

After one month, we check in together to see if it’s a good fit for both you and Sattya.

    Compensation & future opportunities

At this time, this is an unpaid volunteer position.

Sattya is sustained through a mix of earned income, community programs, and grants. As we stabilize and grow, there may be opportunities for paid project roles or longer-term positions, and volunteers who have already been part of building the space are well positioned for those.

    What we offer

    • Daily dal bhat lunch together
    • Endless tea and coffee
    • Access to Sattya’s spaces, tools, and resources
    • Entry to workshops and events
    • Hands-on experience in a long-running arts organization
    • Networking with local and international creatives
    • A chance to contribute meaningfully during a key transition phase
    • Community, learning, shared responsibility, and friendship

    Current focus (2026)

Volunteers joining now will be helping with:

    • Opening the Art Cafe and Coworking space
    • Supporting regular public opening hours
    • Hosting small community events and gatherings
    • Strengthening internal systems and workflows
    • Planning programs and activities for the coming months

    Our values

    Sattya is grounded in:

    • DIY and DIT (Do It Together) ethics
    • Dignity of labor and shared responsibility
    • Inclusiveness and openness
    • Cross-cultural collaboration
    • Experiential learning
    • Transparency and mutual respect
    • The belief that creativity belongs to everyone
