Position Overview:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our hospice care team as volunteers. As a hospice volunteer, you will play a critical role in providing emotional, practical, and spiritual support to patients and their families during a challenging time. Volunteers offer companionship and assistance, helping to improve the quality of life for those at the end of their life journey.

Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Support:
- Provide companionship and emotional support to hospice patients.
- Sit with patients to offer comfort, listen, and provide a caring presence.
- Assist patients with non-medical needs as appropriate (e.g., reading, engaging in conversation, or simply being present).
- Offer respite care to family members, allowing them time to rest or take care of other responsibilities.
- Family Support:
- Provide emotional support and active listening for family members and caregivers.
- Assist family members in navigating the hospice process and offer information about available services and resources.
- Offer practical assistance when needed, such as running errands or light household tasks.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the hospice care team, including nurses, social workers, and chaplains, to ensure comprehensive care.
- Attend volunteer training and ongoing education sessions to stay informed about hospice services and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Compassionate, empathetic, and respectful toward individuals and families facing serious illness and end-of-life issues.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with care and professionalism.
- No prior healthcare experience required.
- Must complete the volunteer training program, which include hospice orientation, background checks, and health screenings.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with patients and families.
- Sensitivity to the emotional and physical challenges of terminal illness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of the hospice organization.
