    Position Overview:

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our hospice care team as volunteers. As a hospice volunteer, you will play a critical role in providing emotional, practical, and spiritual support to patients and their families during a challenging time. Volunteers offer companionship and assistance, helping to improve the quality of life for those at the end of their life journey.

This is a flexible, rewarding role where you will directly impact the lives of patients and their loved ones, providing comfort and companionship.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Patient Support:
      • Provide companionship and emotional support to hospice patients.
      • Sit with patients to offer comfort, listen, and provide a caring presence.
      • Assist patients with non-medical needs as appropriate (e.g., reading, engaging in conversation, or simply being present).
      • Offer respite care to family members, allowing them time to rest or take care of other responsibilities.
    • Family Support:
      • Provide emotional support and active listening for family members and caregivers.
      • Assist family members in navigating the hospice process and offer information about available services and resources.
      • Offer practical assistance when needed, such as running errands or light household tasks.
    • Team Collaboration:
      • Work closely with the hospice care team, including nurses, social workers, and chaplains, to ensure comprehensive care.
      • Attend volunteer training and ongoing education sessions to stay informed about hospice services and best practices.

    Qualifications:

    • Compassionate, empathetic, and respectful toward individuals and families facing serious illness and end-of-life issues.
    • Excellent communication and active listening skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with care and professionalism.
    • No prior healthcare experience required.
    • Must complete the volunteer training program, which include hospice orientation, background checks, and health screenings.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with patients and families.
    • Sensitivity to the emotional and physical challenges of terminal illness.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of the hospice organization.

    Training and Support:

    • Comprehensive orientation and training provided, including information about the hospice philosophy, confidentiality, and patient rights.
    • Ongoing support from the Volunteer Coordinator and care team.
    • Opportunities for continued education and professional development in hospice care and bereavement support.

    Benefits:

    • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families.
    • Personal growth and fulfillment from providing comfort and care to those at the end of life.
