    Descripción

    Through the Community Builder Program, the New Town City Library Special Projects Coordinator supports library services, cultural preservation efforts, and digital inclusion for the residents of New Town, North Dakota. This position will play a key role in expanding access to educational programs, preserving Indigenous history, and connecting local organizations to build a more vibrant and informed community.

    Essential Duties include:

    • Support the Library Director with special projects focused on the Indigenous community of New Town.
    • Assist patrons with accessing Wi-Fi, eBooks, databases, and public computers.
    • Provide one-on-one digital literacy support to build tech confidence and promote digital independence.
    • Expand the capacity of after-school, summer, and adult education programs.
    • Assist with developing the New Town Library's upcoming tool lending library.
    • Coordinate cultural and wellness programs, with a focus on partnerships that highlight the culture and heritage of the MHA Nation.
    • Assist with researching grant opportunities
    • Contribute to social media content creation and e-newsletter development.
    • Coordinate communications for events and library activities.
    • Plan and implement community events and programs.
    • Build relationships with local organizations and key stakeholders to advocate for the library’s mission and expand community partnerships.
    • Develop and maintain a volunteer recruitment and retention system.
    • Attend and participate in Board of Directors and other community meetings as needed.
    • Host listening sessions to better understand the needs of New Town’s diverse population.
    • Strengthen strategic partnerships with local schools, Fort Berthold Community College, and the Three Affiliated Tribes Museum.

    Training

    Participate in AmeriCorps training and activities as required by Souris Basin Planning Council

    Benefits include a monthly living stipend, a housing/grocery stipend, and an education award after successfully completing service commitment. This is 300-hour AmeriCorps service commitment that pays $4,500 through bi-monthly living stipends, and an education award of $1,565.08 after successfully completing the service commitment.

    About the Host Site:

    The New Town City Library started in Sahnish, ND. When Sahnish folded (Garrison Diversion), it moved to the basement of Dr. Wilson's clinic on Main Street, New Town ND. Due to a flood in the basement in 1965, it was moved to a larger room in the clinic basement. In 1070, it was adopted by the City of New Town and moved to 103 Soo Place, New Town ND. In 2017, New Town City Library moved to its present location at 307 Main Street, New Town ND. The space increased from 1,000 feet to 3,800 feet.
