Director of Finance & Tax Compliance

Position Summary

The Director of Finance & Tax Compliance provides oversight and guidance on nonprofit financial practices, reporting, and tax compliance. This volunteer will serve as a trusted advisor helping VSS maintain strong financial integrity and meet IRS and state requirements.

This role is ideal for a CPA, accountant, finance professional, or graduate accounting student seeking meaningful board-level experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on nonprofit financial best practices
• Assist with preparation and review of annual IRS Form 990
• Ensure compliance with Massachusetts nonprofit regulations
• Provide guidance on donations, sponsorship reporting, and restricted funds
• Help establish basic financial policies and procedures
• Support budgeting and financial planning for programs/events
• Review bookkeeping structure (QuickBooks or similar)
• Provide recommendations to improve financial transparency
