Description
Position Summary
The Director of Finance & Tax Compliance provides oversight and guidance on nonprofit financial practices, reporting, and tax compliance. This volunteer will serve as a trusted advisor helping VSS maintain strong financial integrity and meet IRS and state requirements.
This role is ideal for a CPA, accountant, finance professional, or graduate accounting student seeking meaningful board-level experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on nonprofit financial best practices
- Assist with preparation and review of annual IRS Form 990
- Ensure compliance with Massachusetts nonprofit regulations
- Provide guidance on donations, sponsorship reporting, and restricted funds
- Help establish basic financial policies and procedures
- Support budgeting and financial planning for programs/events
- Review bookkeeping structure (QuickBooks or similar)
- Provide recommendations to improve financial transparency
