The annual FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, brings together world-class golfers, St. Jude patients, fans and supporters.
In 1970, St. Jude founder Danny Thomas partnered with Memphis leaders to make St. Jude Children's Research Hospital the designated charity of the Memphis Open golf tournament. The tournament became the St. Jude Classic.
In 1986, FedEx became the title sponsor. In 2019, the name changed to World Golf Championships–FedEx St. Jude Invitational. In 2022, the PGA Tour elevated the tournament to be part of the FedEx Cup, a three-tournament playoff to determine the champion of the year, and named the tournament the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The tournament has taken place at TPC Southwind since 1989.
Since the Memphis tournament initally partnered with St. Jude in 1970, it has raised more than $79 million for St. Jude, helping to advance the research hospital’s lifesaving mission. When it comes to golf in Memphis, it’s always been more than just a game.
