    Description

    The Center on Deafness is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals who are Deaf, hard of hearing, and/or have developmental disabilities. The Center provides person-centered services that promote independence, inclusion, community participation, personal growth, and an improved quality of life.

    Through programs such as residential services, community day programming, vocational training, and community integration, the Center works to ensure that individuals have opportunities to develop skills, build meaningful relationships, make informed choices, and actively participate in their communities.

    The Center is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate services while advocating for the rights, dignity, independence, and inclusion of the individuals it serves.

    COD Board of Directors Volunteers

    For the Center on Deafness, Board members should demonstrate:

    Required:

    • Commitment to the mission and values of the Center on Deafness.
    • Ability and willingness to attend quarterly Board meetings.
    • Ability to participate constructively in Board discussions and decision-making.
    • Understanding that Board service is a governance responsibility, not an employee or management position.
    • Willingness to comply with the organization’s bylaws, policies, conflict-of-interest requirements, and confidentiality requirements.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and act in the best interest of the organization.
    • Attend monthly board meetings. Stays informed about board matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports
    • Assist with the identification, cultivation, and recruitment of potential new Board members.
    • Governs the organization and ensures adequate financial resources and stability.
    • Get to know other board members and build a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus
