About Leafgreenafrica Institute & The Project
At Leafgreenafrica Institute, we stand at the intersection of environmental sustainability, climate action, and social justice.
We are currently expanding our Pre-Trial Justice Project, an initiative dedicated to providing free, high-quality legal services to indigenes in Nigeria who are suffering from or have suffered systemic legal injustice. We believe that access to justice is a fundamental human right, and we are looking for dedicated individuals to help us secure the funding needed to scale this impact.
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, highly reliable Volunteer Grant Associate to manage our grants pipeline. You will play a critical role in researching, tracking, writing, and managing grant opportunities that directly fund our legal aid and environmental initiatives.
This role requires someone who is an independent self-starter. We will provide all the technology tools you need to succeed, but we count on you to manage your time and deliverables without constant hand-holding.
⚠️ Before You Apply: Please Read Carefully
This is a no-pay volunteer position that carries real-world impact for vulnerable individuals facing legal injustice.
- We are not looking for short-term applicants or individuals who vanish mid-project.
- We require someone who is dependable, self-driven, and whose word means something.
- You must be able to commit to the monthly strategy meeting on the last Thursday of each month without exception.
If you have any doubts about your availability, self-motivation, or alignment with this cause, this role is not for you.
However, if you are driven by a desire to create real social impact, ready to take ownership, and want to build valuable grant-writing experience, we strongly encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline Management: Research, track, and manage incoming and outgoing grant applications, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
- Grant Proposal Writing: Assist in drafting, editing, and submitting compelling grant proposals tailored to climate, legal reform, and social justice funders.
- Data & Workflow Tracking: Maintain an up-to-date database of funding opportunities and application statuses.
- Strategic Alignment: Attend and actively participate in our mandatory 1-hour monthly strategy meeting held on the last Thursday of every month.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Unwavering Commitment: A deep passion for social justice, human rights, climate action, or legal reform in Nigeria.
- High Independence: Proven ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
- Integrity & Reliability: When you say you will do something, you follow through. We are looking for someone who stays the course and communicates openly.
- Tools: Knowledge of or hands-on experience using Monday.com is a strong plus, but not mandatory.
- Technical Setup: Must reside in Nigeria with stable access to electricity and high-speed internet (technological tools/software premium access will be provided by Leafgreen Africa).
What We Offer
- Full access to all software and technology tools required for the role.
- 100% remote work flexibility from anywhere in Nigeria.
- A platform to gain high-level grant management experience while directly impacting the lives of marginalized individuals in pre-trial detention.
- Collaborative engagement with a mission-driven team.
